ABOUT US
HISTORY
Second Baptist Church (SBC) located at the intersection of Locust Street and West Second Avenue, Roselle, New Jersey, USA, is much more than a beautiful ‘landmark’ structure. SBC is a congregation of worshippers. It is a place of faith, hope, and love. A place where, for one hundred and thirty years, vision and mission intersect, and God is glorified. This year, 2020 AD, as the Church celebrates its one hundred and thirtieth anniversary and reflects on its history, we do acknowledge that we have come this far standing on the faith of our forefathers and on God’s sustaining love. As we celebrate the joys and the blessings that we, the current body of believers, have experienced we cannot forget those who have sacrificed and cared for the church over the years; neither can we ignore the challenges that God in His infinite wisdom has set before us at this time.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Church shall be the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the administration of the ordinances and disciplines of the New Testament, to carry out and abide by the spirit of our Church Covenant as well as the principles of God’s Word, to become God’s appointed instrument for the salvation of mankind and for the demonstration of God’s work in our community, nation and world, and the spread of the Gospel unto all nations.
MISSION
This Church shall seek to attain this end through the public worship of God, devout Christian witness in speech and action by its members, and the provision of a thorough Christian education to all persons - infants, child or adult - who earnestly seek to learn of the Master and Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.
This Church shall seek
- To proclaim the gospel through preaching, personal witness, and the use of a variety of media applicable to the heart of our church’s witness
- To effectively communicate the need for repentance, the opportunity for pardon, and the hope of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ carried forward through the lives of redeemed believers
- To promulgate the need for every believer to become totally Christ-dependent as the Pastor weans and conditions the flock from being Pastor-dependent
- To effectuate and provide pastoral care as the special opportunity for personal witness through care, support, and guidance by pastors, ministers, diaconate and church membership, understanding that it is also the responsibility of the Church to become ministers one to another due to the fact that Baptists believe in the priesthood of all believers.
